Collaborative Supply Chains

Early Sourcing and DFM

Early Sourcing enables collaboration between the supplier and product engineering using the latest business trends such as DFM (design for Manufacturing) and DTC (design to cost).
The traditional method of product design, then sourcing leaves out the supplier’s valuable input for DFM (design for manufacturing). The new business model identifies and sources the supplier early. Then product engineering can work together with the supplier to optimize the designs for improved DFM. In the past, purchasing was nervous that sourcing early would allow for high prices from the supplier with a loss of leverage. But the collaborative cost models with the suppliers takes this risk away. Now all engineering changes can be managed through the cost model with predetermined costs and profit levels.
